Finding Serenity in Ibiza
A cool breeze blows as I stare out from the magnificent infinity pool set above a cliff overlooking a giant protruding rock in the distance. An indescribable energy is in the air. Es Vedrà, this rocky formation, is one of most magnetic points on earth, I’m told by the the guest relations manager of the new 7Pines Kempinski Resort Ibiza. We marvel at the view. In mythology, it was the home of the sirens and sea-nymphs who tried to lure Ulysses from his ship in Homer’s Odyssey. Some believe it is the tip of the lost civilization of Atlantis.
The sun is setting over the horizon and a DJ is spinning cool and energetic tunes that seem to float along with the wind. Crowds have gathered over cocktails at the Cone Club’s lounge adorned with plush sofas and front row views of the fiery sunset. The anticipation of the sun kissing the sea is met with a celebratory ring of a a loud gong. The vibrations transmit a soulful feeling and positive energy within. This sunset ritual happens every night at the resort and becomes a landmark point of the day. It marks the end of a peaceful day and the beginning of a beautiful evening. I’m already breathing deeper in the few short hours I’ve been here.
7Pines Kempinski Ibiza is a haven of well-being with the heart of the resort being the Pure Seven Spa. It is inspired by the Mediterranean lifestyle and the energy of Ibiza, a place to reconnect the mind, body and soul. It is a much needed respite for me for the next few days. This is my first time to Ibiza (pronounced Eeh-beetha) and much different than the Ibiza I have come to know by its reputation as a party island with endless nights and anything goes.
7Pines Kempinski Ibiza exudes laid-back luxury feel and an Ibizian flair – a Bohemian style you will find throughout the island celebrating a casual and carefree lifestyle. The resort is surrounded by pine-filled countryside. It has an ideal location between the spectacular Cala Conta and secluded Cala Codolar beaches within walking distance of the resort. There are 186 expansive suites at Seven Pines are set in gardens throughout the resort. They are appropriate in design for the setting – like a stylish and contemporary seaside home.
I head over to the Pure Seven Spa where I meet the spa director who has created a customized spa program for me for the next few days. It is the heart of the resort with a wellness concept that attracts soul seekers alike. The spa director recommends that my program include stand-up paddle-board yoga at one of the nearby beaches, signature treatments including a Hydra-facial and soothing massages. I surrender myself to her care.
After a leisurely buffet breakfast each morning at The View restaurant overlooking Es Vedra, I take my Range Rover Evoque convertible, a perfect car for the terrain of the island, to explore the many “calas” (small beaches) throughout the island. The resort is about 25 minutes away from Ibiza town center, and having a car is ideal to be able to explore as my own leisure. This becomes my daily ritual.
I return in the afternoons for a mid-afternoon swim at the resort’s eye-catching pool and savor a delicious lunch of fresh sushi and frozen smoothies to stay cool. In the early evening, I retreat to the spa where I hide away for a few hours before gathering for the sunset ritual. I enjoy leisurely dinners at one of the resort’s two restaurants, The View for Asian inspired cuisine or the more casual Cone Club for Mediterranean food.
The resort boasts a Pershing Yacht Bar, the first in the world that has been designed by the Pershing Yacht team to emulate the clean lines of a Pershing Yacht – an ever-chic spot to enjoy pre-dinner drinks and even cigars.
7Pines Kempinski Ibiza takes you by the soul. It infiltrates all the senses and gives you a sense of calm and balance. It allows you to have a spa and wellness getaway without feeling over-programmed or deprived. I leave feeling ever renewed and peaceful. My mind wanders dreaming of my return.
